NTUCB With BNTU Against GOB
Today the Trade Union Congress held a press conference to discuss UNCAC, and the government's failures. But, it also used the opportunity to make government know that it has the teachers union's back:
Marvin Mora - President NTUCB:
"I find it absolutely ridiculous that they are being pushed around and not given the chance to sit down in earnest and make some meaningful suggestions as to how else these issues at hand can be addressed. For us at the congress, it was clear but we cannot allow our sister union to stand on its own in regards to this matter. We're asking again, the Minister of Education to pay heed to the call of the union."
NUTCB Wants Political Will On UNCAC, or Else
And while that fire is burning on Patrick Faber's lawn, the labour agitation and disgruntlement also extends to the office of Attorney General Mike Peyrefitte. Today the NTUCB press conference was about UNCAC - the United Nation Convention Against Corruption - and what the Unions feel is government's lack of will to implement it. President of the NTUCB Marvin Mora says there are implications for stringing them along:
Marvin Mora - President NTUCB:
"And the implications of a government who has failed to act in the implementation of those recommendations to ensure that the passage of the UNCAC is full and complete in our country... "
Two Killings in Concepcion
It was a tragic and brutal weekend for the northern village of Concepcion, two men in their 30's fatally stabbed in unrelated incidents.
Cherisse Halsall travelled to the Corozal district to find out about 37-year-old Juan David Mendez and 34-year-old Daniel Cano. We start with Mendez, who after a hard day of work was looking forward to sharing a few beers with his brother.
The first of the killings happened on Saturday night. Daniel and Juan David Mendez were heading home when they met with a friend near their neighborhood store.
Questions Around Can' s Killing In Concepcion
The Cano family in Concepcion also wants justice for their brother, Daniel. He met his death at the house of a neighbour and friend. Now, we examine the series of events that led to his fatal stabbing.
And Shortly after the break of day, the village of Concepcion saw bloodshed once again. Antonio Andersen could never have believed that the actions of his visiting nephew would turn his yard into a murder scene.
Antonio Anderson - Friend of the deceased:
"Well we were socializing at my house we were good we were having a good moment and we were drinking a couple of beers and he was there, right, ok when the young man got there who is my nephew right, he arrived with his car..."
Police have suspects in custody for both cases and are expected to bring charges shortly.
Bus With Medical Students Flips
There was a scary accident on the Philip Goldson Highway this morning which ended with a bus full of medical students overturned on the shoulder of the road.
It happened sometime before 10 a.m near mile 7. This bus was transporting medical students to the Ladyville campus of the Columbus Central University School of Medicine. It is unclear what happened, but the driver lost control of the bus. It then swerved off to the side, then in the nearby bushes, where It ended up overturned. Although the accident was no doubt a scary experience, all of the passengers escaped serious harm.
Bust Stop Beat Up
A man was beaten up at a bus stop on Saturday morning, and it was caught on security camera.
Emory Gonzalez was waiting at the bus stop in front of old Belize at mile 5 on the Western Highway when three men pulled up in a car, and beat him mercilessly. It only lasted for a few seconds before they jumped back in their car and sped off.
Police told us they know who did it:
Sup. Alejandro Cowo- OC CIB:
"Police are investigating this matter. I believe that Mr. Gonzalez was readmitted at the hospital this morning. We have interviewed him for a very short time. But what we have gathered so far is that he was in the company of another female, of a female person..."
Man Claims Cops Tortured Him With Hot Water
On week Friday's news, we told you about the allegation of police abuse by the Belize City family of Francis Nolberto. According to them, he was detained by police, and while he was in their custody, an officer threw hot water on him and scalded his face and chest.
He was allegedly picked up by police for questioning on Friday about a stolen cellular phone, and while he was at Mahogany Street Station, an officer maliciously threw the scalding hot water on him.
It's a disturbing allegation of abuse, and this morning, we got a chance to speak with Nolberto who has since been released from custody without charge.
Mans Says Cops Beat Him For No Reason
And tonight, there is another complaint of abuse of police authority coming from a family living on the Belize City's Southside.
This time, the alleged victim is Oliver Sutherland, a resident of Collet Canal, which is near to the Conch Shell Bay area. He and his family say that for a number of years now, police teams have visited their homes to conduct searches for illegal drugs and weapons. They say they have always shown respect for these officers, and that they have never tried to obstruct them from doing their jobs.
According to Sutherland's family, however, on Saturday morning at around 8:00, a team of police officers from 2 special units barged into their homes and put a beatdown on him.
Khris Gentle Drowned, Family Says
Tonight, the Belize City family of 26-year-old Khris Gentle continues to mourn his untimely passing at sea. All indications at this time are that he drowned while he was fishing.
The last time his family saw him alive was on last week Tuesday when he left the city on a fishing trip to Augustine Bogue Island. According to relatives, the Conch Shell Bay resident was recently hired as a fisherman, and although he left with his boss, he asked to stay a few days longer. That employer returned ahead of him, it wasn't until Thursday that his family became concerned and reported him missing to police.
Law enforcement authorities began searching areas near his employer's fishing camp, and on Sunday, his decomposed body was discovered near Banister Caye.
Police Say No Foul Play in Gentle Death
And, this afternoon Police told us they have reached pretty much the same conclusion, that it was not foul play:
Sup. Alejandro Cowo- OC CIB:
"What we know is that Mr. Gentle was reported missing last week by family members and that he had went fishing along with others and he was left behind in the island. Apparently he went fishing and that is when family members went on the following day and found that he was not on the island and they began to do a search of the area. It was until Saturday morning that his body was discovered."
Masked, Armed Robbers At Reimer's Belmopan
And, going now to Belmopan - Reimer's Feed Mill on Forest Drive, was targeted by armed burglars again - but this time, the security guard was ready.
It happened at around 2:00 on Saturday morning when 27 year old guard Eleuterio Reyes had to "lick shot" to drive off three masked men - who weren't afraid to fire back. Police told us more:
Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero- NCIB:
"On Sunday the 2nd day of February 2020 Eleuterio Cruz, security guard at Reimers Feed Miller in Belmopan reported that he was alerted by his dog to a particular area. Open making checks he observed three masked male persons in the compound at which point he drew his issued 9 mm pistol and asked the persons to freeze..."
Charged For Killing Kajoan
And, in other crime news, a man has been charged for the murder of Kajoan Roches - who was killed on Thursday night in Belize City. The 21 year old was killed on Ebony Street as he hung out with friends. Today, police say the target was one of those friends and Kajoan was collateral damage:
Sup. Alejandro Cowo - OC CIB:
"Reference the fatal shooting of Kajoan Tony Roachez, which occurred on Thursday night, on Sunday police arrested and charged Adrian Claud Swasey, 22 years, for that shooting incident..."

Viewers will remember the very public dispute that the PSU had with the Belmopan City Council after the council sold the property to the private company, Simplex Design Limited, in 2018. The PSU cried foul because according to them, this property had been the union's base of operations for almost 20 years. They say that they should have been given the first opportunity to buy because the 2001 lease agreement with the Belmopan City Council gave them what is known as "overriding interest" on the property.

Aragon And The Audit
And, finally tonight, some politics. On Saturday at the UDP National Party Council meeting, we got to ask former Minister of State Elodio Aragon about the Audi of the National Sports Council. It finds huge cases of fraud, wastage, and mismanagement. He said he asked for the audit when he took over:
Hon. Elodio Aragon - UDP OW East:

UDP's First Leaders' Convention - A Ballot Only For Ultra-Loyalists
And, we also got to ask Party Chairman Alberto August about the 570 delegates who will vote for the new leader of the UDP.
That's going to happen at Sunday's National Convention where only UDP's ultra loyalists who have been elected as delegates will get to pick the new leader.
August told us who comprises that select 570:
Alberto August - Chairman, UDP:
"Our party is 570 delegates of our party comprise several blocks within our party. The biggest voting bloc comes out of the constituency. Every constituency has 16 delegates, so if you times the 16 by 31, that is going to give you 496 delegates..."

The Cayo District In Belize Is All About Eco Adventures
The Cayo District covers about 2,000 acres in the western part of Belize. If you’re in the mood for dense, green jungle, fast-moving rivers, majestic waterfalls, green mountains, sacred caves, Maya ruins, and verdant hillsides, you will be swept away by Cayo.
A drive through the district takes you to the twin towns of San Ignacio and Santa Elena. Belize’s only suspension bridge, the Hawksworth Bridge, spans both towns across the Macal River. Both are alive with street markets, restaurants and a growing number of businesses that cater to eco-tourism and adventure travel. If your vacation dreams include any type of adventure excursion, you should make San Ignacio your first stop.
The district is enormously scenic. The largely untouched forests are alive with colorful birds and exotic wildlife. As you continue traveling west through the district, you reach acres of cultivated farmland.

If you love birds, we suggest you start the next decade on a high note by flying to one of the top birdwatching destinations in 2020. We’ve scoured the globe—from the Subantarctic Islands of New Zealand to the subtropical rainforests of Brazil—to identify the most exciting birding destinations to visit this year. From the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea: Our next selection is the (vastly underrated) Central American nation of Belize. This lush tropical oasis is a haven not only for snowbirds of the human variety, but their winged counterparts as well—though most of Belize’s 618 species of birds call the nation home all year-round (only 20% are migrants.) And, frankly, we can’t blame them.

And it might be more affordable than you expect, too. Kid-friendly activities and tours abound, and family accommodations range from hotels with multiple pools to eco-friendly villas. San Pedro on Ambergris Caye is a short, inexpensive flight or water taxi ride from Belize City. Here you’ll find lots of resorts and hotels to choose from.
Britain uses vast swathes of one of the world’s most biodiverse countries for military training — and pays nothing
UK troops are conducting live-fire military exercises in one of the world’s most biodiverse countries which contains “critically endangered” species and rare archaeological sites. They are also authorised to conduct exercises in at least one protected forest area.
Belize, which is roughly the size of Wales, receives no payment for hosting these operations that involve thousands of British soldiers each year.
An environmental audit carried out by the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) shows that nearly 380,000 of Belize’s 2.3 million hectares are now available to the British army for jungle warfare training.

This is Obi, another of the young Yucatan black howler monkeys in the Nursery Troop
Wildtracks Update: This is Obi, another of the young Yucatan black howler monkeys in the Nursery Troop. This is his story.
Obi came to Wildtracks in May 2019, after being found concussed on the ground. Thank you to the tour guides who were in the right place at the right time...who witnessed the attack on his mother by a spider monkey, waited to see if she would return for him, and when that didn't happen, rescued him. Obi would not survive on his own in the wild, as at 3 to 4 weeks old when rescued, he would be fully dependent on his mother.
Once at Wildtracks, Obi was paired with a human carer who could give him the care he needed... and milk! Initially Obi could not cope without his "comfort blanket", but now, eight months later, he spends his days playing and bonding with his troop, and enjoying being the cheeky character that he is - and no blanket in sight!

In recent weeks, San Pedro Town has seen a change in the opening and closing hours of several stores on the island. This is a result of the slow but effective enforcement of the new law mandating that all stores with a Shop license must close and are not permitted to sell alcohol past 9PM.
Officer in charge of the Coastal Executive Unit, Superintendent Christopher Noble said his approach to enforcing the law is by educating the people. Belize Keeping Out Coronavirus
The coronavirus outbreak is moving quickly and tonight, the news is that the US will put into place temporary travel restrictions that will bar entry into the United States by any foreign national who has traveled to China in the past 14 days.
And what's the plan for Belize with this public health event of international concern? Well, a Ministry of Health press release says it is enacting what sounds like a sort of soft ban. A press release says "for those who were/are planning to travel to China from Belize, it is recommended that those plans be postponed until we are further aware of the extent of this novel coronavirus.
UDP Spending: Panades Shop or Split Decision
The PUP is claiming victory tonight after the Chief Justice handed down a long anticipated decision today. CJ Kenneth Benjamin ruled that the Prime Minister, as Minister of Finance and the Financial Secretary violated the constitution when they spent public funds without first getting parliamentary approval.
The judgement found that this happened with the famous 100 million dollar OOPS between 2012 and 2013 which never went to parliament, and another 1.3 billion dollars in Petrocaribe funds, which was taken to Parliament after it was disbursed.
PSU Reaches Impasse, Threatens Industrial Action
But, right now that judgement is not on the front burner for the Financial Secretary; he has to focus instead on major discontent at the Tax Services office. The newly amalgamated department which came into being just a few months ago had not made a smooth transition, and tonight the Public Service Union is declaring a trade dispute after it has, quote, "reached an impasse with the Ministry of Finance in resolving several issues of concern.
But today the Financial Secretary told the media said that he has not been apprised of the dispute. He started out by explaining that the change has not been easy:..
PSU Says Justice For Jumoke
The Fin. Sec. is also at odds with the PSU over Jumoke Castro. He's the son of Minister Edmond Castro, and also an employee of the Tax Services Department. His name was all over the news 6 weeks ago when he made a facebook post, making sinister threats of a sexual nature against the wife of PLUS TV's Luis Wade.
He was suspended and widely condemned for the post. But one of those groups that condemned him has also had to come to his defence. That is the Public Service Union and after Castro was suspended, the Union wrote to the Financial secretary to say that he was being penalized unfairly for actions committed outside the performance of his duty.
BDF Passout Under Pressure
106-New BDF soldiers-14 of them women had their formal passing out today at Price Barracks Ladyville. It was a ceremony filled with the usual Pomp and Circumstance but, it happened under a cloud because varied and vile sexual improprieties are alleged to have occurred during their basic training. And, the allegation is that it came down from the senior personnel who was in charge of the training of the female recruits.
And, after the passing out ceremony, we spoke to the Commander of the Belize Defence Force Brigadier General Steven Ortega who yesterday in a press release called the occurrences grossly unacceptable. Today he told us that the only way to fix these issues is to investigate and put measures in place to ensure that these types of abuses never happen again:
Kajaon Killed, Shot At The Gate
There was another murder on the city's Southside last night - the fourth in a week.
This one happened around 8:15 on Ebony Street near its junction with Magazine road. The victim is 21 year old Kajoan Tony Roches, who was standing on the street side talking to some friends, when a gunman passed on a motor bike and opened fire.
A friend who walked to appear off camera told the media that killing had never come to that corner before:
Allegation: Man Scalded By Police
And, a family in that same general area is reporting tonight that their loved one was scalded by police with hot water. They sent us pictures of Francis Nolberto's whose chest appears indeed to have been scalded. The family says he was picked up for questioning about a stolen cell phone, and then viciously scalded.
An aunt asked us to appear off camera when she told us about how he looked when they saw him at the Mahogany Street station:
Coast Guard's 40K Bust
The Coast Guard has made a major bust of illegal gillnets and fisheries products.
They conducted operations in the area of Manatee Bar Mouth today and discovered three fishermen operating with expired fisher folk license.
They had in their possession an assortment of nets; 3 of the nets exceeded a 1000 feet.
Of the three fishermen, one is a Belizean and the other two are originally from Guatemala with naturalization documents.
Almagro Blew Through Belize
The OAS Secretary General blew into town for a visit today and the media was left out without an invite for a meet and greet or interview. This morning, Prime Minister Barrow met with His Excellency Luis Almagro at the Laing Building in Belize City. The two used the opportunity to discuss hemispheric and regional issues as well as bilateral relations with Guatemala. The Secretary-General presented an update of the work of the OAS Office in the Adjacency Zone especially in the areas of promoting a culture of peace and conducting verifications.
Belize Unbothered For Brexit, for Now
BREXIT is a done deal. Today, the UK and the European Union (EU) announced that they have finalized the withdrawal agreement whereby the UK will exit the EU.
The process has implications for Belize and today we received a press statement from the Government Press Office informing that during the transition period, Belize's trade with the UK - the largest market for Belize's export of sugar and bananas - will continue to be governed by CARIFORUM EU Economic Partnership Agreement.
Taxi Tempest In A Teacup
SJC boasts one of the largest school campuses in the City, and for decades sat on the Princess Margaret Drive with no security fencing. Well, times have changed and the dangers of a wide open, easily accessible campus presents a danger to the student body, teaching and administrative population.
So SJC is building a major concrete fence spanning its large compound, but for Ernesto Torres and the taxi drivers of West Landivar it threatens to displace them. Torres and his ever changing band of taxi occupants have been enjoying the location since 2001, without the infringement of any tax, peddler or user fee from the property owner SJC or the City Council.

Since he made his plea on the media, renewed vigor has come to the Dara Feeding Programme. Today he dropped by our studios to say thank you and promote his annual Bob Marley Concert. He and the Concert Director Kwame Scott say it is a Reggae, Super Bowl Charity affair you just should not miss. Feeding 50 children costs and Dara said there is nothing else in life he would rather do than making every effort to keep that programme alive not for him but for the children.
Joel Dara Robinson:
"I must say I have to give thanks to the media because when I invite unnu the reaction and pour of love from all the people dey all inna di States di reach out and try sustain the programme..."
New Soldier Pass Out During Passing Out
Despite the allegations of sexual misconduct in the BDF, the show went on at the passing out for new recruits today, complete with a parade, musical interludes, and even a mock battle.
And while some soldiers actually did pass out, as in FAINTED in the afternoon sun, the majority held strong and many were even recognized by the Governor-General with special awards. And the ceremony seemed to make Brigadier General Steven Ortega wax nostalgic about his own intake.
Saldivar No Show At BDF Passout
And one very notable at the BDF Passout, was Minister of National Defence John Saldivar who tasked Minister Boots Martinez to deliver his usual keynote speech.
BDF Commandant Steven Ortega who told us that this is the first passing out that Saldivar has missed out under his command.
Reporter:
"Why was Mr. Saldivar not here?"
Brig. Gen. Steven Ortega, Commander, Belize Defence Force:
"He will have to answer for that, I don't know."

Sex scandal in the BDF
The Belize Defence Force (BDF) is about to celebrate its 42nd anniversary and pass out a new recruit squad in a ceremony scheduled to take place at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow, at the BDF Price Barracks Headquarters in Ladyville.
While those two events may be the big news for the BDF, there are disturbing allegations of “misconduct, extortion, maltreatment, sexual assault and sexual advances” coming out of Price Barracks, a Ministry of National Security press release said today. If this turns out to be true, this would be a gross violation of the fraternizing rules established to uphold discipline and respect in the force.

Editorial: New Guatemalan leader reaching out to his neighbors
Guatemala’s new president, Alejandro Giammattei, took office on January 14, and in his first couple weeks in office we saw what kind of leader our neighbors to the west will likely have for the next four years. Giammattei came out of the gate at full gallop.
Three days after taking office, he declared a state of emergency in two cities on the outskirts of Guatemala City. A doctor by profession, Giammattei was once in charge of Guatemala’s prison system, and one of his campaign promises was that he would be tough on crime. The new Guatemalan president wants a law declaring gang members as terrorists, and he supports prison labor and the death penalty. He is against conjugal visits for prisoners.

Marx famously said that religion was the opium of the masses. Religion is not the opium of the oligarchy, mind you: religion serves the purposes of the oligarchy, who live in luxury, by basically sedating the pain of the suffering masses.
In my family, in the marital, offspring, sibling and relative sections, I am surrounded by ladies who are deeply, deeply religious. These are not members of the oligarchy, but they have their daily, material needs being satisfied. In other words, they are not suffering physically.

Patrick Faber’s saga & UDP leadership
Last week I wrote about the relationship of John Saldivar and Dean Barrow and in that web was the fate of Patrick Faber. I find it amazing the developments I am seeing before my eyes as Patrick Faber’s saga continues. I say saga because in his own way, he is his own worst enemy.
I want it to be known that my perspective on these personalities are based on my very own personal and private relationship with them in a time when they were not in government office and only aspired for it.
“We owe it to posterity…”
At 96 years of age, functionally blind and bedridden, but still very lucid, one-time Speaker of the House and Amandala columnist C.B. Hyde has charged me “with the responsibility” to present the case of 3 items concerning former Cross Country champions that he thinks demand public attention and recognition as of great importance to our sporting culture and history. “We owe it to posterity,” he declared, to put these matters in the record once and for all.
On one of my regular visits with mom and dad, both bedridden, he greeted me yesterday with much anxiety and a sense of urgency, having distilled his thoughts enough to be convinced that his contribution was relevant and worthwhile to his beloved country and people, about which he spends much of his time nowadays contemplating.
And then she (Ms. Sandra) went and spoiled it all …
I listened to Ms. Sandra Coye talk with Mose on the WuB for hours on Wednesday morning, and she was on point, her usual enlightening self, as she spoke on the Equal Opportunities Bill that has been presented to us by the LGBT and friends. Everyone who listens to Sandra’s lectures comes away with valuable lessons and lots of stuff to ruminate on. Wednesday was no different, choice morsel after choice morsel, and then …
Ms. Sandra threw a shot at the decision by government to decriminalize marijuana. Look, there is nothing worse than totally illegal marijuana, the state before it was decriminalized.
Reform: a heartfelt letter
To under-stand fully what the present admini-stration is foisting upon us, you have to know who we truly are.
Are we really only a mixtum-gatherum of races from far-flung places deposited somewhat by accident into swamps and other beautiful but not gloriously spectacular hills and valleys that we have named Belize?
Even close friends and relatives rail at me, scoffing: the Battle of St. George’s Caye is a myth. NO! It was real! WE WON!
An “unwanted” pregnancy: abortion is proposed
Towards the end of May, I noticed the return of a worried air about Jewel, more intense than before the Easter holidays; and in the second week of June she had asked me outright if I could help her with a problem after we both went off duty at four that evening. I had willingly made myself available and had not been surprised at her request to give my opinion on a confidential matter.
Her story had been that her very good friend had reason to believe that she was pregnant but, to avoid publicity, was afraid to verify it with anyone on staff. What should she do?
Retired female captain pushes for petition to investigate sexual violence in BDF
Dear Editor,
My apologies if anyone feels that they have no power to influence an independent investigation into the years of alleged sexual assault in the Belize Defence Force.
As a SURVIVOR of the Belize Defence Force and the toxic environment created for the women charged with defending the sovereignty of our country, I urge you all to please sign a petition to urge the Human Rights Commission to conduct a full investigation into the human rights violations and make legal and structural steps which the Belizean government can take to eradicate sexual violence within the military, including reviewing any decision not to prosecute sexual assault allegations from the Chain of Command.
Brian E. Plummer thinks deep thoughts
Dear Editor,
It is a time when both globally and locally, there are many socioeconomic challenges, but there are also many opportunities for progress. The present global order was constructed after the Second World War. It was made by the victors of World War 2 with the Brentwood agreement for the global monetary system, which made the United States dominant in global finance because the US dollar became the world reserve currency, backed by gold.
Trump moves to block visas for pregnant women on “birth tourism”
The State Department on Thursday gave visa officers more power to block pregnant women from visiting the United States and directed them to stop so-called birth tourism, or trips designed to obtain citizenship for their children.
The administration is using the new rule, which takes effect Friday to push consular officers abroad to reject women they believe are entering the United States specifically to gain citizenship for their children by giving birth. The visas covered by the new rule are issued to those seeking to visit for pleasure, medical treatment or to see friends and family.

ATM Cave – Cave of the Stone Sepulcher
Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave is the Maya name for what is perhaps the most impressive, most mystical Mayan attraction in Belize. In fact, National Geographic has listed it as #1 of the Top Ten Sacred Sites in the world. The Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve is home to this Cave system. It is nearly 3miles (4.8 km) long and river passages extend for 2 miles (1.5 km), then there is a sump (an exit that empties into solid ground) at the end of the stream. Incredibly, passages from prehistoric times, continue for another mile, through huge broken-down boulders and large rooms. These all culminate in a giant sinkhole, which is a possible exit, but a very tight squeeze.

You can make this chicken stew with store-bought spice paste—or play with fire and make your own
The unofficial national dish of Belize, chimole (also known as black dinna), gets its distinctive coloring from a generous amount of recado negro, a spice paste of Mayan origin whose main ingredient is burnt chili peppers. I don’t mean dried, or smoked, or charred. I mean burnt: roasted in fire until the skins turn black and the surrounding air becomes a cloud of pepper spray. This is a recipe that demands to be cooked outside, and even then, there is no escaping its infernal wrath. It’s quite possible that whoever invented recado negro may have been attempting to bring harm upon the chefs. Just listen to all the coughing in this video:
Mayan breakthrough: Experts 'must rethink everything' after revolutionary archaeology find
A MAYAN archaeologist claimed experts will have to "rethink the whole demography of the Maya" after "revolutionary" technology is changing everything experts thought they knew.
Dr Mendoza went on to explain how revolutionary technology is changing everything experts thought they knew.
He added: “This is when you take and chop down a portion of the forest, wait until the trees dry and set them on fire.
“The burning of the wood creates the mineral substrate needed to grow maize, but you could only do that for about five years before you exhaust the soils again.
